Configuring WLAN - Resolved.

Ok, install went fine. I could not find my wireless. Plugged the computer in from the router and was on line immediately.

Then I was unable to configure, kept hitting the root password thing (Root Sudo) and would not accept my 'system password' - found that information and what it meant in the scheme of things.

Ran the suggested cmds: ifconfig, ispci, iwconfig and nothing to work with there.

I am really discouraged and ready to dump this whole thing. Why is it if I plug directly into the DSL and am online with no problems, why aren't the settings required not saved/configured for the wireless connection?

I had the same problem with

I had the same problem with my Netgear card WGA311, i used a windows driver and wrapped it .. I was using Ubuntu hardy heron.... the card is working fine now but i needed it to capture wireless packets which was not supported , i do not know whether this is a problem with my card or driver ...[inappropriate link removed]

Resolved: It works- used WEP

Resolved:
It works- used WEP and router passphase and when it came to authorising the root password, I hit deny and boom- all is well.

Case closed and happy camper with a 64-bit OS at no additional costs.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO AROCHESTER! I see you are a lion of support here and between you, our esteemed admin, and others, I believe I just might make this vital adjustment!

Here is the line I believe you were looking for:

03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 02)
07:05.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller

Just FYI, I noticed an update was available for that driver so I installed it.
In set up do I go with Infrastructure OR Adhoc?
-Also, I am using the same settings for the wireless as my "Wired" (autoetho- eg. Mac Address and Auto DHCP).
I hope this helps you help me. . .

Thanks.

I am also to the point I am going to call my ISP (ATT) for what ever help they might offer. Would not be surprised if they offer none. I am unsure what security level they run WEP, etc if that is screwing things up.

Run the command lspci -

Run the command lspci - that's l for lemur NOT i for india. What is the result? Copy and paste here. (Looking for the line that says something like "network adapter".)
